Ministry: Army helicopter upgrade stalled but not abandoned
Hungary’s Defense Ministry is planning to upgrade the country’s military helicopter fleet in the long-term, a ministry official told Hungarian daily Magyar Hírlap on Saturday.
The cost for the helicopter procurement is in a projected range of HUF 80-200 bln, while the entire budget allocated for defense in 2014 stands at around HUF 240 bln, deputy state secretary Péter Siklósi told the paper, adding that “this means the government must top up funding from the central budget”.
He added that “Luckily there are rotary aircraft on the market which meet our needs,” and that there were no Russian companies among suppliers which had expressed an interest.
