Merkel to Orbán: Refugee registration will eventually resume

German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán Saturday evening by telephone and pointed out that Germany will not accept refugees from Hungary indefinitely, according to an announcement posted on the website of the German chancellery bundeskanzlerin.de.

During the call, both Merkel and Orbán agreed that they would adhere to the Dublin III as well as European regulations in the handling of future refugee cases.

They also agreed that allowing refugees to travel onwards into western Europe without first registering for asylum in Hungary, was as already noted, an exception to the rule initiated by the emergency situation at the border following several busloads of refugees being dropped off and journeying into Austria on foot on both Friday evening and earlier in the day on Saturday.
