Hungary needs over twice as much energy to produce a unit of gross domestic product compared to the rest of the EU; and compared to Denmark, the gap is six-fold, said Kóka. The government aims to raise the efficiency of energy consumption by 3.5% a year. This means that if GDP increases by 4.5%, energy consumption must only go up by 1%, Kóka said. The minister announced two tenders for non-refundable central support. Bidding individuals could win a total Ft 880 million (€3.31 million), for reducing household energy consumption. Another Ft 183 million (€688,000) will be laid aside for bidders with plans to expand the use of renewable energy resources.
