Budapest will host the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering of conservative activists and elected officials from the United States and beyond, in 2022, the Budapest-based Center for Fundamental Rights said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

CPAC, which is organized by the American Conservative Union (ACU), touts itself as the "largest and most influential gathering of conservatives in the world".

Center for Fundamental Rights director Miklós Szánthó said at a press conference that CPAC could take place in Budapest at the end of March 2022. The goal is to attract a number of outstanding U.S. politicians, journalists, and influencers to Hungary, he added.

A number of Republican U.S. presidents have spoken at earlier CPACs.

ACU head Dan Schneider noted that CPAC has been hosted in Asia, South America, and Australia, but never before in Europe.
