Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó called U.S.-Hungarian cooperation a "real success story, with the exception of political cooperation" speaking with public media in Washington DC on Thursday.

Szijjártó said he would meet with members of the US-Hungary Business Council later in the day to discuss future investments in Hungary.

He noted that around 1,700 US-owned companies employed more than 100,000 people in Hungary. Since 2014, the government has supported 111 big investments by US companies in Hungary, he added.

U.S. companies form the second-biggest group of foreign investors in Hungary and have always played an "important role" in keeping the economy on the growth path, with their broad range of activities, he said. He added that those companies were drawn to Hungary by the low tax rate and political stability in the country.

He said the United States was now Hungary's biggest export market outside of the EU, adding that bilateral trade had exceeded USD 9 billion last year, a new record.
