Kaspersky software purged from govʼt computers

A government decision published on Monday in the official gazette stipulates that computers used in Hungarian public administration should not be allowed to run software by Russian antivirus software developer Kaspersky Lab.

The government decision, cited by news site hvg.hu, says that the Hungarian government supports the decision adopted on June 15 by the European Parliament regarding the need to eliminate potentially harmful software and devices, including those provided by Kaspersky Lab, from computers used in public administration.

The decision does not specifically ban Kaspersky products in Hungary, but it does in the case of government computers. Hvg.hu notes that last year the United States introduced limitations on antivirus software shipped by Kaspersky Lab under the assumption that they are directly linked to Russian state authorities. Kaspersky Lab later dismissed the charges and announced in December last year that the company will sue the U.S. government for false accusations.
