Trade surplus declines in April

MNB

In euro terms, exports increased by 10.7% and imports by 15.7% in April 2018 compared to the same month of the previous year, according to a first, flash estimate of data for the external trade in goods from the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

The KSH noted that trade was influenced by the fact that there were two more working days in April 2018 than in April 2017.

In April 2018, the value of exports amounted to just under EUR 8.6 billion, and that of imports to EUR 8.06 bln. The trade surplus thus totaled EUR 536 million, declining by EUR 263 mln year-on-year.

The share of European Union Member States was 81% in exports and 76% in imports.

In January–April 2018, the value of exports amounted to EUR 34.7 bln, up 5.1% compared to the first four months of 2017, and that of imports to just under EUR 32.1 bln, up 6.7%. The trade surplus thus totaled some EUR 2.6 bln, declining by EUR 308 mln year-on-year.

A second, more detailed estimate of data for the external trade in goods in April 2018 will be published on July 3.
