Slovakia Real Wages Grow for 1st Time in 2 Years

The real wage in Slovakia grew 3.9 year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2023, marking the first growth since the fourth quarter of 2021, following a 0.6% fall in the previous period, figures released by the Bratislava-based Slovak Statistical Office (SÚSR) showed.

Among sectors employing the most people in Slovakia, industry and trade posted an increase of 4.7% and 2.8% in real wages, respectively.

Meanwhile, the average nominal monthly wage rose by 10.6% from a year earlier to EUR 1,569, driven by increases in average nominal wages in most of monitored sectors of the economy.

For the whole of 2023, the real wage declined by 0.7%, while the average nominal monthly wage climbed by 9.7% to EUR 1,430 compared to 2022.
