A mobile application that can be used to scan and pay postal cheques was used more than 8 million times last year, close to triple the number in 2019, state-owned postal company Magyar Posta, which developed the app, said on Wednesday.

The app, called iCsekk, was used to pay almost HUF 80 billion of bills, Magyar Posta said, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Magyar Posta attributed the increase in the app's popularity to upgrades in the course of the year as well as changed consumer habits because of the pandemic.
