Latvia Inflation Rate Edges up in December

Annual inflation rate in Latvia edged up to 0.9% in January from 0.6% in December, figures from the Riga-based Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) on Friday show.

Major upward pressure came from prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.9% vs 2.7%); alcoholic beverages and tobacco products (7.7% vs 8.3%), and health care (6.8%, the same as in December).

On the other hand, prices continued to fall for goods and services related to housing (-7.4% vs -10.3%).

Compared to the previous month, the prices went up 0.8%, with cost for housing (2.5%), mainly electricity (5.6%), furnishings (2%), health (1.8%) and food recording the biggest increases, data showed.
