Green Preferential Capital Requirement Program Stock Hits HUF 880 bln

Local lenders' stock of credit in a preferential capital requirement scheme to support green lending reached HUF 880 billion at the end of 2023, data published by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) show.

Under the scheme, launched at the start of 2020, MNB is releasing part or all of Pillar 2 capital requirements for environmentally sustainable retail, corporate, and municipal exposures.

The data show gross value of corporate and municipal exposure in the preferential capital requirement program stood at HUF 673 bln at the end of December. Bonds in the scheme came to HUF 85 bln, at fair market value, and gross stock of home loans reached HUF 122 bln.

Stock of credit in the preferential capital requirement scheme rose from HUF 557 bln at the end of 2022.
