The government targets a 2.9%-of-GDP fiscal deficit in the 2024 budget draft, Gergely Gulyás, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, said at a regular press briefing on Thursday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The government has discussed next year's budget draft and aims to submit the bill to lawmakers around May 30, Gulyás said. A final vote could be taken on July 7, he added.

The budget draft will ensure the country's security as well as protect families, pensioners, workplaces, and the regulated utility price scheme for households, he argued.
