The film, which addresses the horrors of the Holocaust through the micro-narrative of Saul, a Jewish Sonderkommando at Auschwitz responsible for escorting his fellow prisoners into the gas chambers and then disposing of their bodies, also recently took home a Golden Globe for best foreign language film and was the winner of the Grand Prix award at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
A former assistant to renowned Hungarian director Béla Tarr, Nemes studied film in New York and wrote and directed three award-winning shorts including “With a Little Patience” and “The Counterpart” prior to writing and directing his latest award-winning film.
