An index value above 50 shows expansion in the manufacturing sector, while a value under 50 signals contraction. According to Halpim, the index has been over the growth threshold for more than a year. Halpim added that the index was over the long-term January average of 52.0 points and also exceeded the 53.4-point January average of the last three years.
