Whether the figure is a little over or a little under 10% will become apparent when the Central Statistical Office (KSH) releases the latest inflation data on Friday, Gulyás said.

The latest projections suggest November CPI will be a little over 8%, at most, and December inflation a few tenths of a percent more than 7%, he added.

Gulyás noted that the government had earlier set a goal to bring CPI down to the single digits by year-end.

Hungary's CPI fell to 12.2% in September, dropping for the eighth month in a row after peaking at 25.7% in January.
