Hungary’s government has decided to suspend mandatory reinjection of thermal water used exclusively for energy until June 30, 2015, the Rural Development Ministry said on Friday.
On the basis of the government resolution, the ministry will plan phases for the regulation of thermal water used for agricultural purposes, such as greenhouse farming. The ministry said the regulations would take into account business considerations as well as sustainability, in line with European Union principles.
Under a decision taken by the previous government in 2010, greenhouse farmers who use geothermal energy would have been required to start reinjection from December 2012.
