Sales of lottery ticket doubled last week

Telco

Sales of lottery tickets rose to just over 7.3 million last week, more than double the weekly average of 3-3.5 million due to the rollover of the pick-five lottery jackpot since last autumn, daily Népszabadság said yesterday, based on data from state-owned lottery company Szerencsejáték.

In the event that no one wins this weekʼs jackpot of HUF 4.8 bln, the prize could beat the all-time record. The largest jackpot won so far was HUF 5.09 bln in 2003. Last weekʼs lottery ticket sales generated revenue of HUF 1.6 bln. Szerencsejatekʼs earnings will most certainly benefit from the recent lottery fever although it remains to be seen the scale of profits to be expected, the paper added.
