Poll: 12% of Hungarians will buy no Christmas gifts

Analysis

A total of 12% of Hungarians plan to purchase no Christmas gifts in 2013, a poll by local social-research institute Tárki shows.

The Tárki poll shows that 66% of those who indicated the intention to purchase Christmas presents in 2013 reported that they planned to spend the same amount of money on gifts this year as last year, while 28% reported that they planned to spend less money and 6% that they planned to spend more money. 

Tárki noted that 15% of those surveyed in an identical poll in 2011 said that they planned to purchase no Christmas gifts that year.

Tárki said that in 2011, 50% of those who intended to buy Christmas presents planned to spend the same amount of money on gifts as the previous year, while 46% said they planned to spend less and 4% said they planned to spend more.
