Patai predicts two more lean years for Hungarian banks
Hungarian Banking Association President Mihály Patai expects it to take another two years before the government eases measures leveled at banks and for economic growth to enable household lending to recover, Reuters reported in an interview with Patai on Thursday.
"Reconciliation will come but the road to reconciliation from the freedom fight that the government is having against the banking sector will be much longer and bumpier than I anticipated a couple of years ago," Patai said.
Patai does not believe that household lending will grow until 2017, but said he does “believe corporate lending will grow by a few percent this year already and also next year.” He also noted that the banking sector as a whole will make a modest profit for the first time in several years.
