July external trade surplus totals EUR 668 mln

Hungaryʼs external trade surplus came to EUR 668 million in July, growing by EUR 31 mln compared to the same month a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said in a second estimate today. Exports decreased by 5.4% and imports by 6.4% year-on-year in EUR terms.

The export volume decreased by 3.4% and the import volume by 2.0% in July, as compared to the same month a year earlier. The value of exports amounted to EUR 7.3 billion and that of imports to EUR 6.6 bln, the KSH said. 

The volume of machinery and transport equipment decreased by 3.1% in exports and 4.7% in imports. The export and import volumes of manufactured goods were down by 3.5% and 1.3%, respectively, the KSH data show. The import volume of fuels and electricity grew by 10.4%. The export volume of food, beverages and tobacco decreased by 5.0% and their import volume by 3.0%.

The volume of exports to EU member states decreased by 3.5% and that of imports by 2.3%. The surplus on Hungaryʼs trade with EU member states decreased by EUR 55 million and amounted to EUR 508 million. The share of the trade with these countries was 79% both in exports and imports.

In the January-July period, the value of exports amounted to EUR 53.7 bln and that of imports to EUR 47.7 bln, the volume of exports increasing by 4.1% and that of imports by 4.8% compared to the corresponding period of 2015.

The surplus on the trade balance increased by EUR 899 mln and amounted to EUR 6.0 bln.
