Hungary consumer durables sales climb 11% in Q1

Hungary's market for consumer durables grew 11% in the first quarter from the same period a year earlier because of growing demand for tablets, smartphones, and digital single-lens reflex cameras, market research company GfK Hungária told MTI on Wednesday. The growing popularity of tablets, notebooks and netbooks lifted sales in the IT segment by 38% in value terms. Higher sales of digital SLR cameras and mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras lifted turnover in the photography segment by 17.5%. Sales of small household appliances rose 5.6%. Sales of larger household appliances grew 5%. Sales of telecommunications goods expanded 10% in volume terms and 20% in value terms. Sales of entertainment electronics grew 2.4% as sales of LCD TVs rose 13%. Sales of office technology products fell 6% in volume terms and 12% in value terms.
