Hungarian police sent to Serbian-Macedonia border
Ten Hungarian police officers travelling in an off-road vehicle and four additional vehicles equipped with thermal cameras are on route to the Serbian-Macedonian border, according to a statement issued by the National Police Department’s communication office, online news portal Origo.hu reported yesterday.
The police officers will work with Serbian police to help detain illegal migrants before they reach the Hungarian border, the daily reported. The agreement for the joint provision of services was made last Monday between Hungarian chief of police Károly Papp and his Serbian counterpart Milorad Veljovic.
The daily added that teams of investigators from Hungary, Austria and Serbia have been assembled to stamp out criminal organizations involved in smuggling migrants into the European Union.
