Households received HUF 13 bln per month in family tax-benefits last year
On average 800,000 parents per month asked for tax relief for families with children last year, and that helped them save HUF 13 billion per month, the daily newspaper Magyar Nemzet reported on Thursday.
This resulted in overall savings of nearly HUF 160 billion last year for families in which at least one of parents held legal employment, the newspaper wrote.
The family benefits are part of the government's flat-rate tax system introduced last year, the newspaper recalled.
Net wages of parents with big families increased more than 20% last year as a result of the children's benefits, although "it is also to be remarked that some people were not able to avail themselves of the total possible tax relief because of their low wages", the newspaper added.
