Government to compensate sludge disaster victims with HUF 400 mln
The Hungarian state determined that it would provide HUF 400 mln in compensation for non-material damages to victims of the red sludge disaster which took place in 2010, the National Development Ministry told Hungarian news agency MTI today.
According to the ministry, the decision affects altogether 70-80 families, who suffered “psychological trauma or injuries” after a reservoir at the alumina plant in Ajka in northwestern Hungary burst in October 2010, sending a flood of toxic red sludge through the surrounding villages.
