Government expects up to 80,000 increase to employment rolls
The Hungarian government expects the number of employed to grow by between 60,000 and 80,000 next year, economy ministry state secretary for employment Sándor Czomba informed national news service MTI today.
Czomba said the aim was to raise employment to 4 million and keep it there, adding that employment in Hungary rose 235,000 since the current government took power.
Data from the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show that the number of employed among Hungarians between the ages of 15 and 74 averaged 3.99 million in the third quarter, rising 54,100 in one year. The unemployment rate in the age group was 9.8%, dropping under 10% for the first time since the second quarter of 2009.
These statistics are in line with ILO (International Labor Organization) statistics, and include people with all forms of employment contracts who have worked more than one hour a week during the period or are on sick leave or paid absence. The data include those employed on public work schemes and those working abroad for less than one year.
According to data cited by Czomba, the number of employed rose 235,000 since the government took power in the middle of 2010, and 80,000 of the increase came from those employed on public work programs, 50,000 came from those working abroad and the remaining 100,000 of the rise reflected the increase of employment in the competitive sector.
