Stock of prenatal baby support loans surpasses HUF 1.064 tln
Hungarian lenders' stock of prenatal baby support loans reached HUF 1.0645 tln at the end of December, up about HUF 43 billion from a month earlier, monthly data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on Wednesday show, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The government introduced the unsecured, interest-free, general-purpose prenatal baby support loans up to HUF 10 million for families having children in July 2019. The loans are part of a package of family support measures designed to address the problem of depopulation and are available only until the end of 2022.
Households borrowed net HUF 78 bln in December, lifting retail lending stock to HUF 8.11 tln, the fresh MNB data show.
Households made net deposits of HUF 344 bln during the month, raising retail deposit stock to HUF 11.213 tln.
