Value of Bank Card Payments Climbs 24% in Q2

The value of payments in Hungary made with locally-issued bank cards climbed 24% year-on-year to HUF 3.733 trillion in the second quarter, state news wire MTI reports, citing data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on Friday.

The value of cash withdrawals made with the bank cards edged up 2% to HUF 2.37 trillion.

The bank cards were used to make HUF 608 bln of purchases abroad, climbing 27% from the same period a year earlier.

The number of brick-and-mortar businesses with POS terminals in Hungary stood at 150,061 at the end of June, up 6% from twelve months earlier. The number of online businesses with POS terminals rose 19% to 46,636.

The number of ATMs in the country inched down 2% to 4,825.

The value of transactions made using mobile bank cards jumped 70% to HUF 666 bln in Q2. 

Bank transfers made using Hungary's instant payment system increased by 10% to HUF 12.227 tln.
