Households Make Net Withdrawals of HUF 334 bln in January

Households made net withdrawals of HUF 334 bln from their accounts at Hungarian banks in January, monthly data released by the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) on Friday show.

Households made net withdrawals for the sixth month in a row, taking out net HUF 42 bln in August, HUF 124 bln in September, HUF 179 bln in October, HUF 184 bln in November and HUF 17 bln in December.

Hungarian banks' retail deposit stock stood at HUF 12.439 trillion at the end of January.

MNB data show households repaid net HUF 28bn of credit in January. Households made net repayments on their loans for the first time in close to five years. 

The retail lending stock stood at HUF 9.881 tln at the end of January.
