E.ON, govt decline comment on PM repurchase remark
German utilities company E.ON declined to comment on a statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the weekend that the state would buy back its holdings in Hungary.
The prime minister's press chief also declined to elaborate further on the matter. E.ON spokesman Christian Drepper acknowledged Orbán's statement but said the company did not wish to comment.
Orbán said at a festival on Saturday that Hungary would shortly repurchase E.ON's business in Hungary.
Orbán's press chief Bertalan Havasi would not elaborate on the matter when asked by MTI.
"We do not wish to expand on the news of talks with E.ON for the time being. If there is new, substantial information, will announce it," he said.
Hungary's previous government obtained an option in 2010 to repurchase E.ON's Hungarian unit.
E.ON's revenue in Hungary came to €1.95 billion in 2011.
