Lóránt Lehrner, an economist with more than a decade of experience managing financial institutions, has been named to head the company in charge of a European Union superlaser project at the University of Szeged (SE Hungary), the National Development Ministry’s communications department told MTI on Tuesday.
Lehrner was appointed managing director of ELI-HU Nonprofit, in charge of the EU’s Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) project in Szeged.
Hungary, the Czech Republic and Romania won a HUF 100 billion joint bid in 2009 for the ELI project that will open new avenues to reveal the secrets of matter on ultra-short timescales.
The government in January allocated HUF 64 billion in EU structural funding to support the project.
