The new plant, operated at the Kistarcsa site of Alteo Circular Kft., is expected to help raise the group’s annual processing capacity for returned beverage packaging to 28,000 tonnes. The facility will process PET bottles and metal beverage cans, keeping them in the circular economy.
The investment was carried out by FE-Group Invest Zrt., part of Alteo’s circular economy business line, at the Kistarcsa site of Alteo Circular Kft., which also operates within the same business segment. ALTEO said the development will strengthen its circular economy business segment, which is being managed in an integrated way across the two companies.
The Kistarcsa DRS waste processing plant received the necessary regulatory permit on July 6, allowing trial operations to begin. Alteo said the new facility has a strategic role in Hungary’s mandatory deposit return system and is currently the most modern plant in Hungary for processing returned packaging.
The company said this is its second production line of this type, following the installation of a similar system at its Kőbánya site a year earlier.
The fully automated technology allows beverage packaging to undergo professional pretreatment before being returned to the raw material cycle. Alteo said the facility supports the principles of the circular economy by helping extend the life cycle of packaging materials subject to product fees and improving resource efficiency.
The Kistarcsa plant has an annual capacity of 14,000 tonnes. With the new facility, ALTEO Group’s total DRS waste processing capacity is expected to double to 28,000 tonnes a year.
The project was implemented as part of Alteo’s circular economy strategy, following an intensive development, planning and permitting process.
In the coming period, Alteo will fine-tune operations based on the experience gained during the trial run, with the aim of bringing the plant up to full capacity within a short period.
