Hungarian-owned Agulhas-Solar on Friday inaugurated a €3 million solar cell assembly plant in Szolnok (E Hungary).
The plant will make European-quality solar cells at Chinese prices, mostly for export, said Agulhas-Solar managing director Gyula Boros.
Forty-two people work at the 30 MW-capacity plant, including management, but planned developments could add about 15 to headcount, he said.
Agulhas-Solar won more than HUF 400 million in state and European Union grant money for the plant, said National Development Ministry state secretary Janos Bencsik.
Agulhas-Solar plans to install a second soldering robot at the beginning of 2012, raising the plant’s capacity to 65 MW, Boros said. The plant’s high-performance lamination system will work at less than half capacity until then, he added.
Switzerland’s 3S Swiss Solar Systems delivered the technology used at the plant.
