The government will review financing for research and development this year to improve the efficiency of the support system and help the country reach its goal of boosting R&D spending from 1.15% of GDP to 1.8% by 2020, National Economy Ministry state secretary Zoltán Cséfalvay told MTI on the sidelines of a conference on Tuesday.
The government is still discussing Hungary’s national program for EU2020, but the 1.8%-of-GDP goal is a realistic one, and corresponds to Hungary’s capacities and traditions, Cséfalvay said.
The government restructured the institutional system for R&D with the establishment of the National Innovation Office last year, he said. This year the task will be to examine the financing system with a view to contributions and additional resources such as venture capital, public procurements and tax breaks, he added.
Cséfalvay was speaking at a conference of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.
