City

The expansion of Győr-Pér Airport, with a price tag of €6.6 mln, was officially inaugurated today. The airport is now capable of accommodating larger airliners, like the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320.

State secretary Péter Szijjártó announced that negotiations are currently being held with Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air to extend the number of destination on the airport’s timetable.

The airport has mainly been serving the needs of German car manufacturer Audi’s factory in the city.

Thomas Faustmann, the managing director of Audi Hungária Motor, said 165,000 passengers have used the airport over the past ten years, including 30,000 last year alone. He added that direct flights between Győr and Ingolstadt, where Audi HQ is located, save the company 120,000 work hours a year compared to the time it would take to make the journey by car.
