Czech economic sentiment improves in May
Czech economic sentiment improved in May after weakening in the previous month, the Czech Statistical Office reported on Friday. The composite indicator, that reflects overall sentiment among both consumers and businesses, rose to -3.6 in May from -5.3 in April. In March, the reading was -2.4. The consumer confidence index advanced to -19.8 in May from -23.8 in April. At the same time, the business sentiment indicator increased to 0.4 from -0.7. In industry, the index moved up -9.3 in May from -11 in the preceding month. The indicator for the trade sector advanced to 3.7 from zero. Meanwhile, confidence among Czech service providers stayed stable during the month. The corresponding sub-index was unchanged at 21.7. In construction, the indicator edged up to -53 from -53.5.
