Construction sector grows 15.9% in Jan
Output of Hungary's construction sector rose 15.9% year-on-year in January, accelerating from an 11.4% increase in the previous month, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said on Monday.
Output rose for the twelfth month in a row.
Adjusted for the number of workdays, output also rose 15.9% in January.
Output rose 0.8% month-on-month, according to seasonally and workday-adjusted figures, after dropping 1.3% in December.
Output rose 4.1% year-on-year in the buildings segment after growing 12.8% in December. Buildings segment output fell a seasonally-adjusted 9.9% from the previous month.
The civil engineering segment expanded a sharp 34.4% from a low base in January 2013. The jump followed a 9.3% year-on-year rise in the previous month. Output of the segment was up 5.4% from December according to seasonally-adjusted month-on-month data.
KSH noted that civil engineering performance was boosted by railway renovation and road construction works, similar to the previous months.
Order stock of the construction sector was up 66.7% in January from a year earlier. Orders in the buildings segment were up 13.0%. Civil engineering orders jumped 85.9%.
New orders received in January were 5.4% higher than a year earlier. New orders fell 2.0% in the buildings segment from an already low base. New orders in the civil engineering segment rose, in contrast, 9.7% from a high base.
In 2013, output of the construction sector rose 9.6%. Output of the sector fell every year in 2006-2012.
