An increase in rental fees expected in Budapest

Deals

Accommodation rental fees in Budapestʼs city center and near its universities increased by a year-on-year 20% in the first half of the year, while prices stayed practically unchanged in eastern Hungary, Hungarian economic daily Világgazdaság reported today.

Rental fees in western Hungary, particularly in the environs of Győr, Sopron and Szombathely, are now almost on par with Budapest prices, Attila Déry, analyst of real estate broker Otthon Centrum told the paper. According to the analyst, the trend is chiefly boosted by the Audi plant in Győr and Hungarian workers commuting to Austria.

The paper also noted that a reason for the increased rental demand is that many homeowners in central Budapest rent their properties for the short-term only, providing a kind of bed-and-breakfast service to tourists.
