According to preliminary data, the damage due to weekend storms may approach HUF 1 billion, while insurers expect further claims, according to profitline.hu.

Aegon Insurance said that the number of claims had exceeded 1,000 by noon on Monday. It expects much more than that; in the case of damage on weekends, customers report the damage with a delay of a few days, after initially focusing primarily on rescue and preventing further damage.

Most of the reports came from Pest County and Budapest, but it is also clear from the primary data that almost the whole country was affected by the storm.

The value of the damage is usually in the order of hundreds of thousands of forints, mainly affecting the roof structure and roofing of residential houses, but there is also damage caused by fallen trees, it said.

Aegon Hungary expects additional claims to reach 4,000, with an estimated HUF 250 million in damages.
