The early July storm was exceptional: on July 8 alone, more than 6,000 reports were filed – almost ten times the usual daily load – while in the following 1-2 days, the workload remained four to five times above normal.
Claims included piped water, glass, and fire damage, among others. Damage payments are expected to total close to HUF 5.7 billion.
Hajdú-Bihar, Pest, and Csongrád counties were the hardest hit, accounting for about half of all reports and the highest-value damages.
The largest single residential claim came from Vecsés (20 km southeast of Budapest), where the roof of a family home was severely damaged by wind and hail, causing nearly HUF 20 million in losses.
