More than 120 bodies of water have already lost their fish stocks, and at least another 100 lakes are in similar danger due to insufficient water volume and the resulting deterioration of water quality.
The situation is particularly critical in most parts of Transdanubia because, in the absence of nearby rivers and canals, water replenishment in the dammed lakes is only possible via rainfall.
