The new national daytime heat record was set in Kiskunfélegyháza, where the temperature reached 41.8 C, surpassing the previous record of 40.2 C set in Orosháza in 1905.
Budapest also recorded a new daily and all-time heat record of 41.6 C at the Újpest station.
The previous daily record for the capital was 37.8 C, measured in 2012 at the Budapest city center station, while the previous absolute record had been set Wednesday at the Újpest station.
Meanwhile, a thunderstorm also produced a new daily wind-speed record in Szolnok, where a gust of 113 kph was recorded.
The previous daily wind record was 107 kph, measured in Körösladány in 2010.
