Hungary's Dairy Products Council will weigh changes to the pricing formula for raw milk on the recommendation of the Competition Office (GVH), GVH said on Wednesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

GVH had recommended a review of the pricing formula for raw milk in April, noting that the formula at present could cause dairy product prices to climb further. GVH said its recommendation could support a reduction in consumer prices while bolstering the competitiveness of local dairy producers.

Dairy Products Council head Miklós Istvánfalvi signaled openness to adopting GVH's recommendation at consultations with other industry insiders and the Agriculture Ministry late in April and met with GVH officials again on Tuesday, May 16.

GVH chairman Csaba Balázs Rigó said a solution would be drafted that would serve both producers and consumers at the same time.

Istvánfalvi said steps would need to be taken in the interest of achieving balance and improving transparency on the market.
