Close to 60,000 chickens are being culled at the farm in Tárkány (95 km northwest of Budapest).

Protection and surveillance zones have been established around the farm. Nébih has identified bird flu outbreaks in eight counties in Hungary this year.

Earlier, an outbreak was found at a turkey farm in Szárász (165 km southwest of Budapest) in Baranya County.

In October, H5N1 was found at duck farms in Fejer County in the west of the country, Hajdú-Bihar County in the east, Csongrád-Csanád County in the south, and Békés County in the southeast.

In every case, entire flocks of birds had to be exterminated.
