Almost 120,000 Hungarians used HUF 4.2 billion in subsidies to replace their old mobile phones for ones compatible with 4G or 5G networks, Hungary's National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) said on Tuesday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Consumers could apply for subsidies of between HUF 20,000 and HUF 40,000 for replacement purchases over the past year as 3G networks are switched off.

Statistics show the Samsung Galaxy A13 was the most popular replacement model, accounting for 35% of all exchanges. The Xiaomi Redmi 9AT was runner-up, making up 15% of handset upgrades, followed by the Nokia 225, accounting for 10%.
