Eötvös Loránd University (Elte) and Japanese precision instruments maker Jasco Corporation signed an agreement on a collaboration serving the needs of the pharmaceutical industry, the university's innovation center said on Thursday, according to a report by news agency MTI.

In the framework of the collaboration, Jasco will apply a method developed by Elte biochemistry researchers in its instruments examining protein structure, the university said on its website.

The new method can estimate the secondary structure of proteins from the CD spectra far more precisely than earlier algorithms.

The event was attended by state secretary Balázs Hankó.
