Slovak Telekom to buy out Digi Slovakia

Analysis

Slovak Telekom has agreed to buy 100% of Romania-based RCS & RDS’s local TV business Digi Slovakia, digitaltveurope.net reported. Through the deal, Slovak Telekom said it will strengthen its position in the digital TV market, building on its digital TV Magio offering, which it launched in 2006. This currently has 180,000 customers via metallic, fiber network and satellite, while the 2012-launched Magio TV Go mobile app now has 15,000 users. DIGI Slovakia has also been in the local market since 2006 and offers cable TV in 10 Slovak cities. Digi Slovakia has currently more than 270,000 DTH, cable television and internet customers, with the majority using its TV service via satellite platform. Slovak Telekom said Digi Slovakia will continue operating as a separate entity and would be a “new daughter company” under the deal, which still needs to be approved by authorities.
