Hungarian Skybaby enters energy drink market

Drinks

A new Hungarian energy drink, Skybaby, will be available commercially from this month, coming in three flavors.

Skybaby says it expects international success from their product, due to the unique pin-up design and the taste developed in a long process starting two years ago. According to a company press release, the product’s main idea came from Levente Balogh, founder of Hungarian bottled water company Szentkirályi. He has also been assisting in the development and launch of the drink by Skybaby SD Kft.

“In the recipe which we have experimented with in the last two years, we have paired the ingredients in a way that makes the drink distinguishable from other similar products: we use arginine instead of taurine, and the sugar content is lower, as we are working with stevia and sucralose, which are natural sweeteners,” said Balogh about the process of developing Skybaby’s flavor.

Skybaby expects its design to be a hit among the youth and induce nostalgia among the older generations. The launch party, which was heavily influenced by the glamour of the 1950s pin-up style and held at the Budaörs Airport, even featured the world’s only working Li-2 plane.

Domestically, the drinks are being distributed in MOL gas stations from June 4, with delivery to hypermarkets rolling out during the month. Skybaby will be internationally available in 50 countries apart from Hungary, and the drinks will also feature at a number of expos in the fall.

The three flavors at launch are “Classic”, with a traditional tutti-frutti taste softened by red grapes, and mate extracts; “Classic Zero” (the same taste but without sugar); and “Cool” with a caffeinated taste harmonized by cinnamon, citrus, and vanilla.
