Magyar Telekom, the Hungarian subsidiary of telco giant Deutsche Telekom, is planning to sell its online media outlet origo.hu, Hungarian economy daily Világgazdaság reported today citing a tender call the firm sent to companies that had shown interest in buying the portal in the past.

According to Világgazdaság, more than ten companies were asked for bids on the media outlet, which has long been one of the widest-read mainstream online news portals.

Beyond Origo.hu, Magyar Telekom is apparently seeking to sell all of its media outlets, which are controlled by Origo Média és Kommunikációs Szolgáltató Zrt. – a firm that is 100% owned by the telecom, according to reports.

Outlets owned by Origo Média és Kommunikációs Szolgáltató Zrt. include: news portal origo.hu, tabloid portal life.hu, streaming video sharing site videa.hu, mail service freemail.hu and TV channels LifeNetwork and OzoneNetwork. According to Világgazdaság, Magyar Telekom is open to any solutions, however it would preferably sell the whole media empire.

Possible buyers listed by the paper include: Central Médiacsoport Zrt., which purchased SANOMA Media Budapest Zrt.; Közép-európai Média és Kiadó Zrt. (CEMP), which owns news portal index.hu, Fidesz-friendly Napi Gazdaság; Modern Media  Group Befektetési és Vagyonkezelő (MMG) Zrt. owned by Árpád Habony; Lajos Simicska, owner of Magyar Nemzet and Hír TV,  whose long-time friendship with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has recently gone sour; and service provider UPC.
