Lufthansa Technik to set up repair plant in Miskolc

Germanyʼs Lufthansa Technik, a provider of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for aircraft, will set up a HUF 43 billion repair base in Miskolc (NE Hungary), Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced on Thursday, as reported by the Reuters agency and Hungarian news wire MTI.
Lufthansa Technik, the commercial aircraft maintenance unit of German airlines group Lufthansa AG, will repair aircraft engine parts at the base, which will employ 400 people, Szijjártó was cited as saying. The government is contributing to the investment with training support, he added.
Lufthansa Technik VP Philip Mende said the center is expected to start operating in 2022, but the first workers will be hired this year and sent for training to Germany and Ireland. The center will also have development assignments requiring highly qualified engineers, he added.
Mende said Lufthansa Technik chose Miskolc for the center because of its advanced infrastructure, competitive business and economic environment, and highly qualified workforce. The facility will be one of the biggest MRO centers in Europe.
