The airline will play a key role in supporting transport logistics for the event, helping ensure that the world’s top athletes arrive ready to compete. With a Budapest network spanning more than 80 destinations, the airline will also facilitate travel for fans attending the competition. The partnership agreement was signed at Wizz Air’s headquarters in Budapest.
“We are delighted to announce that the official airline of the first Athletics World Final will be Wizz Air,” said Sebastian Coe, president of World Athletics. “This event will put the world’s best athletes in the spotlight. We are very pleased that Hungary’s largest airline will play a significant role in the success of the World Final in Budapest.”
Balázs Fürjes, co-chair of the organizing committee, highlighted Budapest’s growing role in international sports.
“Budapest is a global sports capital. Passionate, sports-loving Hungarians have cheered at 30 major international events across 25 summer Olympic sports over the past seven years. We will also be worthy hosts of the pioneering Athletics World Final, welcoming the very best of the world’s top athletes. We proudly share this historic moment with Wizz Air, the number one airline in Central and Eastern Europe,” he said.
With a fleet of more than 260 aircraft and a network covering nearly 200 airports and over 1,000 routes, Wizz Air carries tens of millions of passengers across Europe and beyond. Since launching its first flight in 2004, the airline has transported more than 500 million passengers and continues to focus on providing safe, efficient and reliable services.
“We are extremely proud to participate in this milestone event as the official airline of the Athletics World Final and its local organizing committee,” said Silvia Mosquera, the airline’s commercial director. “As a company committed to connecting people, we are very pleased to help bring the world’s best athletes to our city, Budapest. This partnership reflects our dedication to excellence, positive attitude and inspiring energy – values that are equally important to Wizz Air and a world-class competition, and are particularly evident in how we engage and excite audiences anywhere in the world. Let’s WIZZ!”
The Athletics World Final aims to reshape the traditional athletics calendar, taking place every two years to determine the best of the best. World champions, Olympic champions, Diamond League winners and the year’s top performers will compete to be crowned the champion of champions.
The three-day event will feature a compact format, with multiple semifinals and finals in track events held during evening sessions, while field events will begin directly with finals. Around 400 athletes from approximately 70 countries are expected to participate, representing the elite of global athletics.
